Heroes

Heroes have been throughout history. Biblical heroes such as David, Joshua; Jesus, the greatest of all heroes.

We all have our heroes! Some are created by Marvel, Hollywood; famous authors and song writers. Some heroes are make believe, some are mythical, but the greatest of all heroes are those that walk beside us.

As a mother of boys, heroes were all around us and an incredible part of living in boys world. The hero-the saver of worlds, the slayer of dragons, the rescuer of the needy-is important and help boys mature and grow.

We had Orko, He Man; Super Heroes. As a family we had many debates who was the greatest and if we had a super power what would it be? Mine was usually about something that would help stay ahead of the kids.

In the book: Raising Boys by Design, Hero is referred by the following.

H-A hero acts honorably. Even with internal flaws, a true hero continues to become a person who acts honorably.

E- True heroes are engaged in a significantly important enterprise- generally, saving the world, a city, a family, or a friend.

R- Heroes take on responsibilities that seem impossibly large and they succeed heroically. They solve problems and heal wounds and defeat villains by thinking in an original way.

O- Heroes think originally; outside of the box.

Right now in this moment of time, Luke is my hero! I am humbled by his strength, his courage, his honor toward others in the midst of pain and exhaustion.

Through it all, his main concern is for the people closest in his life. Katie, the Love of his life, the crew at work that has stepped up when he has not been able, his core group of friends that have walked through life with him since high school, his brother and sister and sister in law; Danny and I.

The list goes on and on. Cousins, nurses, receptionists, doctors, etc. The bottom line is that through this horrible disease, Luke has chosen to act honorably, to engage in looking outside of himself, to succeed heroically in attempting to keep up with his responsibilities and still being Luke.

We who are strong must be considerate of those who are sensitive about things like this. We must not please ourselves. We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.
~Romans 15:1-2
